Orchid

Orchid exists to save men's lives from testicular, prostate and penile cancers through pioneering research and promoting awareness

Every year over 50,000 men in the UK will be diagnosed with prostate, testicular and penile cancer. Of these men over 47,300 will be diagnosed with prostate cancer, over 2,200 will be diagnosed with testicular cancer and over 600 will be diagnosed with the rare penile cancer. Sadly, these numbers are increasing.

Orchid is the UK's leading charity working in the area of male-specific cancers.  The charity provides support to people affected by or interested in these cancers through funding a world-class research programme, awareness and education campaigns and a range of vital support services.

These services include Orchid Male Cancer Information Nurse Specialists, a freephone National Male Cancer Helpline, a Testicular Cancer Counselling Service, a portfolio of publications, a testicular cancer microsite and schools resource pack "Your Privates", a dedicated website, newsletter, Roadshows and a unique Community Golf Programme.

Orchid works closely with health and social care professionals, community groups, schools and universities, other not-for-profit organisations, the business community, MPs and the media to raise awareness of these cancers and to campaign for better care and services.

Bowel Cancer UK

Bowel cancer is the fourth most common cancer in the UK and second biggest cancer killer. However, it is treatable and curable, especially if diagnosed early.

Nearly everyone diagnosed at the earliest stage will survive bowel cancer but this drops significantly as the disease develops.

The major advances in saving lives from bowel cancer in the past 20 years have all come through research. Therefore, through strategic investment in targeted research, we will deliver improvements in bowel cancer survival in our lifetime.

Our ambition is to transform bowel cancer survival rates, increasing the number of people surviving bowel cancer within five years of diagnosis from 50% to 75% by 2025.

To achieve this we are working hard with researchers across the UK; we are campaigning at the heart of government; and we are educating people about bowel cancer.

But we need your help.

Join our Go Dad Run team and together we can stop bowel cancer in our lifetime.

WHAT IS CALM?

The Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) is dedicated to preventing male suicide, the single biggest killer of men under the age of 45 in the UK. Every day on average 12 men take their own life, at an estimated cost of £20m.

There were 6,117 suicides in the UK in 2015 of which 75%, or 4618, were male (NISRA, GRO, ONS). Male suicide has an enormous emotional impact on those bereaved, who are then much more likely to take their own lives.

CALM works to prevent male suicide by providing frontline services for men, promoting cultural change and campaigning for better understanding of suicide and prevention.

We were founded in 2006, and in the first ten years of operation have helped treble awareness of male suicide in the UK (YouGov).

Demand for CALM’s services are steadily increasing; currently someone tries to access the helpline/webchat every two minutes (during open hours, 5pm-midnight daily).

In 2015, CALM’s #BiggerIssues campaign, delivered in partnership with Lynx, reached an online audience of 23 million, increased awareness of male suicide by 45%, and helped secure the first ever parliamentary debate on male suicide.

CALM offers:

A free helpline 0800 585858 and webchat (5pm – midnight daily), which are accredited, anonymous and staffed by trained professionals.

theCALMzone.net is CALM’s website, hosting inspiring content written by men for men alongside information and support.

The CALMzine, a free quarterly men’s lifestyle magazine to entertain, inform and inspire young men.

Bereavement support through the Support After Suicide Partnership, which is hosted by CALM.
